What I Wore: A Lesson in Tailoring

1:25 PM

Ages ago, I picked up this Madewell pleated silk skirt for about $24 on final sale, and for some reason I bought and tried on a size too big. I decided to have it altered but my usual Boston tailor wouldn't touch it; the knife pleats were going to be too much work to take in and the skirt would probably not sit right after it was altered. Bummed, I returned home and the skirt sat in my closet for months.

On my trip to Texas in December I decided to take it with me and see if my mom knew anyone who was willing to alter it. She found someone who was willing to tailor it, but gave me a similar warning; the pattern would be difficult to line up and lay flat again. I went ahead and altered it and while it's not perfect, I'm pretty happy with the result. It was inexpensive and it's really not noticeable unless the alterations have been pointed out...

On the left is the side where the alterations were made, on the right is the unaltered, zippered side. How do you think it looks?
