Around Boston: Cupcakes & Cocktails at the BCAE

9:05 AM

If you've been struggling to find the perfect Date Night activity or want to try something new for Girl's Night, look no further than the Boston Center for Adult Education! I recently attended their Cupcakes & Cocktails class with Blog & Tweet Boston, but the BCAE hosts a variety of other classes and workshops including art and photography classes, and wine tastings.

Our class was led by local cupcake enthusiast and designer Dustin Rennells, who was an absolute doll. We had a blast baking, chatting, and sipping cocktails. We made: Brandied Peach Cupcakes with Tangy Brown Sugar Frosting, Chocolate Sangria Cupcakes with Fruit Compote, Spring Break Cupcakes, Red Wine Spicy Winter Sangria, Cake Frosting Shots, and my favorite, Apple Cider Hot Toddies. Everything was all set up for us in their extra-large kitchen, so we sat down and set to work!

These KitchenAid standing mixers are Gods gift to baking.

Half of us set to work prepping ingredients for the cupcakes while the other half got to work mixing cocktails.

Melanie from I Love Lovee shaking up some delicious Cake Frosting Shots!

Said frosting shots. I probably shouldn't have had two... but I did.

Dustin with Liz of Little Moments of Happiness, whipping up that delicious Red Wine Spicy Winter Sangria. Definitely had two glasses of that.

Kristin of BeautyXpose and I were teamed up to help make the frosting for the chocolate red wine cupcakes. We make a pretty good team in the kitchen!

Fast forward a few rounds of mixing and baking and we ended up with a whole lotta cupcakes.

We quickly went to work frosting them all, and I even got to try my hand at frosting them with a pastry bag. Not as easy as it looks, I must say.

After frosting them all, we each went home with about a dozen delicious cupcakes. I gleaned a whole bunch of really great baking tips from Dustin, as well as some recipes that I'm really excited to make again! The Brandied Peach Cupcakes were my favorite and I'm kind of looking forward to our next snow day so I can cozy up with an Apple Cider Hot Toddy.

I would definitely take another class at the BCAE, and highly recommend it as a place to explore a new skill or improve on an old one. The BCAE is located at 122 Arlington Street, not far from Back Bay station. Tickets for the Cupcakes & Cocktail class are $60 for non-members and $51 for members.

I was provided complimentary admission to Cupcakes & Cocktails by the BCAE and Blog & Tweet Boston. This is not a sponsored post. All opinions expressed are my own.
