What I Wore: MFA Summer Party

1:42 PM

In early June I joined Only in Boston for a night on the town at the MFA's Annual Summer Party. I needed a dress suitable for the black tie event but didn't want to spend a ton or be stuck with an expensive evening gown I was never going to wear again. Enter Rent The Runway! For under $100 I rented this gorgeous blue BCBG Max Azria pleated gown. I styled it with accessories and shoes I had on hand and saved a ton of money in the end.

Admittedly, renting a gown was kind of a process; I spent a lot of time scouring their selection of black tie event dresses trying to find one that was full-length but not too long for my 5'2" frame. The renter reviews were extremely helpful and I ended up ordering this dress in a 0P based on the reviews provided. It fit, but jut barely. The backup size 2P was unavailable for the weekend so I just had to roll with it. When it arrived it wasn't in the best condition, these are rented dresses after all. The pleating on the chest was snagged, I had to clip quite a few stray threads, and the hemline was torn at the bottom.

Was it noticeable for the 6 hours I wore the dress? Nope.
I had an amazing time regardless and received countless compliments on my dress. I would definitely rent again.

Have you ever considered renting a dress for an event?
