November Birchbox

11:27 AM

The holidays are just around the corner and this month's Birchbox was themed around giving. Birchbox did a great job of pulling through the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, I received my box on the 10th and was beyond excited! there's just something about opening up that little box! I was really excited to see a full size product in my box, it had been a while (not including nail polish) among other goodies...

Lulu Organics® Lavender + Clary Sage Hair Powder: I was really excited to try this out. I love, love, love dry shampoo. Since I shower at night, I use it pretty much every day. This one smelled great, didn't leave any white reside, and the sample size was really generous. I currently use Oscar Blandi's Pronto which has more of a clean citrus scent. While I like the smell of the Lulu Organics, it's more perfume-y than the clean fresh scents I prefer.

Mox Botanicals Lip Butter in Pomegranate & Fig: This lip butter smells like something familiar but I just can't put my finger on it! It's subtle and fruity but leaves your lips feeling soft. I'm still loving the Jouer Lip Enhancer sample I got last month, so this one is up against some stiff competition.

ModelCo FIBRE LASHXTEND Lengthening Mascara: A full size mascara! I was so excited to see this in my box... and then I tried it :( As much as I wanted to love this, I couldn't. I've tried to use this product multiple times, multiple ways (alone, over another mascara, just on the tips) and I just can't get it to work with me. You can see the little fibers sticking wildly on the wand, but unless you go for a really natural look and keep it to 1-2 coats, you end up a tangly mess. My eyelashes truly looked tangled! I am heavy handed with the mascara, so this could very well just be my mascara antithesis, but I wasn't into it at all. It's such a shame, because the tube has a built in mirror!

One Love Organics® Aromatic Body Serum: Oils are so trendy these days, I think this is the third or fourth I've received in my box. This one however, smelled nothing like the chamomile scent it claimed to be, and smelled more like an expired vintage perfume from the 1940s. Musky and strong, I knew this wasn't going to be a match to my sensitive skin. I didn't even try it in fear of my sensitive skin breaking out in itchy bumps.

John Varvatos Artisan: I popped it open, took a sniff, and threw it into the box of stocking stuffers for my boyfriend. I'll let you know if he likes it.

All products are available through the links above or the Birchbox Shop! All in all, my November Birchbox started out with high hopes and then fell flat, kind of  like my hair when I try to curl it. We will just have to wait and  see what December has in store for us, and hopefully it's something awesome and less perfumey.
