Received & Reviewed: Beauty Box 5

There are a lot of subscription services out there. I've tried Birchbox, Bark Box, Bergamot Box, Nature Box, and several others so when Beauty Box 5 asked me to review one of their boxes I said sure, why not!

My Beauty Box 5 arrived on December 6th from Houston, TX and true to it's name contained 5 products: Spongables Pedi-scrub Foot Buffer, CoolWay Shampoo & Conditioner, Be A Bombshell Cosmetics Eyeshadow in Dancing Queen, and Nubar Nail Polish in Blondie

Spongables Pedi-scrub Foot Buffer: The travel sized sample I received retails for $2.99 and while the packaging says "Your feet will never feel the same," I can't really attest to that statement. The scrubber lathers well, and feels nice on your feet, but I prefer traditional pumice stones. This is definitely a good disposable option, and great to take along on longer trips or beach vacations.

CoolWay Shampoo & Conditioner: This shampoo and conditioner was designed to work with the heat from your blow dryer or straightener to smooth the cuticle and keep hair shiny and frizz free. Both the shampoo and conditioner were ultra rich and creamy, with a light fresh scent. The shampoo lathered well, and the conditioner didn't leave my hair feeling heavy or greasy. All in all, I liked the product but I can't really attest to it's smoothing abilities.

Be A Bombshell Cosmetics Eyeshadow in Dancing QueenUnfortunately, when my box arrived the eyeshadow I received was broken. There wasn't any bubble wrap or tissue around it, just a small handful of shredded craft paper so I wasn't shocked it was broken. While their customer service team happily agreed to send out another the same day, it took a week for the order to be put in, and I didn't receive the replacement until December 26th. This eyeshadow retails for $14 and Dancing Queen is a shimmery silver with buildable color. You can sweep on a sheer layer to hilight the eyes or build the color to create a sexy smokey eye. Nice pigments, but for $1 more I would rather purchase a shadow from MAC.

Nubar Nail Polish in Blondie: Full-sized bottles from this vegan brand retail for $8-$10; I received a sample size in my box and really liked the larger pieces of iridescent glitter. As with all glitter polish, it takes a little effort to apply and remove, but this neutral shade can be worn with just about any color from pink to black. My vegan friends would definitely love this product.

All in all, the box definitely did it's job of introducing me to new brands, but I wasn't in love with the packaging or the products I received. Out of all of them the star was definitely the Spongeables Foot Buffer, but I'm not sure I would purchase it again. This box retails for $12 per month so I don't think I will be subscribing. Unfortunately, I feel there are other boxes out there that offer a greater value.

Have you tried Beauty Box 5 or other beauty subscription boxes? What were your thoughts about them?

I was provided a complimentary box in exchange for review purposes. All opinions expressed are my own.
