Fall in New England: Spooky World

2:01 PM

There are so many things that make Fall in New England special; from the changing leaves along the Charles to apple picking at local orchards, it's something a native Texan like me finds new and exciting. With Halloween just around the corner I wanted to do something to get into the Halloween spirit and a visit to Spooky World in Litchfield, NH with my bestie and Blog & Tweet Boston seemed like the perfect adventure.

Spooky World features five haunted attractions as well as food vendors, paintball games, a small bar, dance floor, and more. We began the evening with a behind the scenes tour of the costume and makeup trailer. Spooky World hires top talent to create the nightmarish and often gory makeup their actors don to achieve a delightfully horrifying experience.

After walking through the costume and make up trailer we took a walk through of the "Brigham Manor" attraction (with the lights on, thank you very much). The Spooky World team builds these attractions each year, visiting local antique fairs shopping for vintage pieces to lend their attractions an authentic feel and their special effects team specializes in creating the theatrical scenes that are staged throughout the attractions. They do an amazing job! I frequently found myself questioning what scenes consisted of props and mannequins and what featured real actors.

After Brigham Manor we ventured through "Carnage" and "Raven's Claw," two similar but uniquely scary attractions at Spooky World. Both had me holding onto my friends hand in fear! No matter what you're scared of, Spooky World is sure to tap into it and give you a fright. While you may not want to take young children or those who scare easily, my girlfriends and I had a great time scaring ourselves silly, enjoying a few drinks, eating funnel cake, and sipping on hot apple cider. It was the perfect way to spend a drizzly Fall night in New England!
