Back to Basics: Silk Staples

7:39 PM

While the new year inspires a fresh start for many, this year has been all about getting "Back to Basics" for me. From simplifying my beauty routine to buying more practical flats instead of sky high heels, it's what inspired this series. And despite the negative connotation the word "basic" has taken on, I'm hoping to inspire you to simplify things in your life. To splurge on those pieces you reach for day after day, and to try to find your way back to a time before arm parties and tulle skirts...

Think back to the last time you wore a slip... Maybe never? Think back to the last time you wore a sheer dress, fitted skirt, or thin top? A lot more recently, right? All of those garments require the right undergarments and while a great fitting bra works wonders, it's just the beginning. A great silk slip or camisole can prevent all sorts of fashion blunders from clingy skirts to see-through knits.

Call me old fashioned, but I own several slips and half slips and they are a definite necessity. Especially for those in a professional/business setting; I wore them all the time back in my finance days and they made cheaper skirts from Forever 21 and the like much more work appropriate. It totally doesn't hurt that worn alone, silk slips can be ultra sexy. This lace trim slip from Luxxie Boston definitely does double duty! (And just in time for Valentine's Day!)

Do you own any slips? What are your preferred garments for keeping a smooth silhouette?
