Health Beat: New Year Update

11:43 AM

While so many others jumped on the fitness bandwagon this month, I totally fell off. I made it to a total of two fitness classes this month, one at Pure Barre Brookline and one at Flywheel with the team from Marshall's. While that's better than nothing, it's a bit infrequent for my liking. I would like to get back to committing to at least one good workout per week.

I did manage to eat pretty healthy throughout the month but I need to try a little harder to resist the temptation that is the mall food court. I've been venturing to the grocery section at Target instead of the food court and found these really yummy kettle cooked apples by Big Slice (pictured below). They're one of my favorite snacks but are a little pricey at $2.49 a pouch. I like to stock up when they are on sale or have a coupon. Some flavors have green coffee extract for energy, others are flavored with other fruits and all are packed with fiber. They make a yummy after dinner treat or lunch box dessert. I also got a new Vapur bag! After 5 years I purchased a new one for my gym bag and retired my old one to my work locker. Found mine at Brookline Booksmith in case you've been looking!

As I mentioned, the Flywheel class I attended this month was hosted by the wonderful team at Marshall's. They sent us to their stores before the class to purchase some new gear and I must say, they had a great selection! I loved the headbands I went home with from Under Armour (pictured above); the extra wide one is perfect for spinners who work up a sweat during class and the thin rubber one doesn't pull your hair and stays in place during your workout! Both were under $10 at Marshall's. The rest of my outfit was from Marshall's as well. What do you think of the space print leggings I purchased?

And last but not least, oh my god have I needed new sneakers! My Nike's are from 2005 and my Coach sneakers were never all that practical to begin with so imagine my delight when these babies from New Balance X Kate Spade Saturday arrived at my door! Talk about motivation! Hopefully come February these will be getting a lot of use.

So how did your month shape up? Did the New Year leave you inspired or sluggish?
