Getting Personal with Bedsider

Growing up in Corpus Christi, Texas I was no stranger to unplanned pregnancy. Each high school had a nursery and at some point almost everyone had a pregnant classmate. The teenage pregnancy rate was among the highest in the nation. I was extremely fortunate to have been presented the knowledge and resources to make informed decisions when the time came, and I always did my best to share that knowledge and make it available to others. It wasn't uncommon for my girlfriends to come to me with questions about birth control or contraceptives (in fact, many still do).

Fast forward about 7 years; I'm 23 and have been with my boyfriend for over 4 years, and I use the ring. While I'm certainly capable of raising a child, I'm certainly not ready to. Nearly 70% of pregnancies among women 18-29 are unplanned, a statistic that is alarmingly high considering the contraceptive options available. That said, I'm really excited to partner up with Bedsider.org and share some of the fantastic resources they have to offer young women.

They have information about every method of contraception from the traditional pill, to IUDs, to good ol' abstinence. Their Method Explorer lays it out in an easy to navigate format that clearly presents your options and all relevant details. Click on each method for detailed descriptions as well as costs (with and without insurance), directions for use, and side effects. Already found the right contraceptive method? Bedsider.org offers reminders via email or text so you'll never miss a dose.

This is one of the best resources I've come across for comprehensive contraceptive information. This is a site every girl should have bookmarked, if not for yourself, then for your friends.

What's in Your Bedsider Drawer?

Right now, Bedsider is giving away a boatload of gift cards in their What's In Your Bedsider Drawer? Pinterest contest. What you keep on your bedside says a lot about you! I keep my bedside pretty minimal, which reflects my attempt to live without clutter. I usually just have some water and my glasses along with a few decorative items.  Check out my official entry and create your own!
